BRIDGING STEPS by Hood of Sisters NRW
The Cultural Office (Kulturamt) of the City of Düsseldorf is funding a two-week international project between the two dance collectives "Hood of Sisters NRW" and the "Sama Street Vibe", who want to foreground and link the importance of traditional dances and their influences on the urban dance scene in Europe: BRIDING STEPS.
The "Hood of Sisters NRW" consists of a collective of female dancers from the urban dance scene in Germany - NRW. The main focus as an urban dance collective are the community bonding aspect and diversity in the cultural-artistic and -dance context. Since last year the collective is looking for performative tools that support their artistic practice and generate knowledge that will be passed on to further generations of dancers in the community and also shared publicly. Through the connection with "Sama Street Vibe" dance collective from Dakar - Senegal, which has existed since last year, the bridge to a joint project was created, in which the postcolonial educational aspect will be in focus. Target groups of the workshops are young people as well as people interested in dance in NRW.
The project will take place from 16.09.2023 to 30.09.2023 and includes a joint research, dance workshops, a public discussion about traditional West African and urban dance styles. The project will end with two performances in the public space and at “tanzhausnrw”, a panel talk and an open jam session.
